Strengthen Commitment To A Green Future
52
We all like our home clean and tidy, while some of us even go an extra mile to
keep our home as bright as new. Have you ever wondered why we think so much
about our home and not about our environment? Well, in a way, Mother Nature is
also like a home we live in isn’t it? And ruining our home with different type
pollutants is not going to help us in any way. So how about some casual things
to keep our planet the clean healthy place it always used to be?
If you
are a well read person, who you most probably are, you must have read many
articles or newsletters enlightening the current generation on the benefits of
keeping a clean and healthy nature. No, we won’t talk about the end of earth and
melting of glaciers but we will talk about the more recent consequences of not
going on a path of green future. Not only a clean environment will keep us from
breathing a bad stale air, it will also go a long way in assuring that our
future generation stays healthy.
While we cannot lessen the continuous
pollution from our vehicles and other sources like factories and chimneys, we
can do a great contribution to the environment saving efforts with the help of
recycling and reusing materials that we can. Now you would ask ‘how would my
recycling help save environment?’ The answer to this is quite simple; all the
materials that we consume are broadly classified into two categories, namely
bio-degradable and non-bio-degradable.
As their name suggests,
bio-degradable waste, once thrown, is fed upon by the bacteria and other
naturally occurring organisms which thereby produce other waste material that is
completely eco friendly. Waste like organic waste, dead plants and animals along
with animal excreta are some of the common examples of bio-degradable
waste.
Non-biodegradable waste is waste that is not decomposed in nature
by itself and stays in its original form for a long time. Plastic is a common
example of non-biodegradable waste that can go for centuries without getting
decomposed. While the problem is not in its nature of ‘not-decomposing’
naturally, the main problem lies with the fact that when plastic actually
decomposes, it turns to lethal chemicals like zinc, cadmium and even arsenic.
As you may have noticed, we do not have to fear from bio-degradable
wastes but from non-biodegradable waste. Taking the refuge of intelligent
concepts like reusing and recycling, we can ensure that our environment has to
suffer a bit lesser because of our carelessness. How nice would it be if those
of us that are lucky enough to have an easy lifestyle begin to take suitable
steps and be the conscientious guardians of our planet?
Think about it,
there are various books and journals that would go on length at telling you how
to recycle various types of waste and reuse it to its fullest. Yes, it may get
dirty and sometimes it may seem that all this is not worth it, but imagine what
would happen if the whole world starts to recycle and reuse!
